Mushroom Forests

I don't know why, but my favorite fantasy location has always been the mushroom forest. Be it the underdark cavern filled with mushrooms of various sizes or the fey/alien feeling mushroom forests of the surface world, with towering 'shrooms that blot out the sun. I can't get enough of em. Back when I was a bit more dedicated to playing World of Warcraft, my favorite zone in the game was Zangarmarsh.
My fiance thinks I'm crazy, but I really want to move here instead of a land with kangaroos
Given that my family campaign has been put on hold since living arrangements, jobs, and other things are all in a jumble and require my showing a level of patience that would test stone, I think I'm going to start designing a small mushroom forest valley for a sandbox.

  1. You can't go wrong with mushrooms. In your game, of course.

  2. I've never seen that picture. Very cool.

  3. I also love fungus forests and I overuse them.

  4. @ze bulette: Nope, you can't go wrong with mushrooms. They're so alien they work.

@The Happy Whisk: It's just one of the pics for World of Warcraft's Zangarmarsh, which is the second zone in the Burning Crusade Expansion(meant for characters level 60 - 63).

@Scott: This will be my first time actually using one. Always wanted to, but the players never go there.

  5. This makes me think of the one of the adventures I designed by never got to run. It featured troglodyte shamans generating mushroom men 'golems'. The shamans would generate these things until they ran out of spell components or mushrooms. The shroomen would keep coming no matter until completely obliterated. I had blunt weapons do double damage and slashing weapons doing half damage.

Finally a cleric is good for more than just a medic. :)

  6. We grew mushrooms a few years ago, and decided that it was a lot less trouble to buy them. And considering how many mushrooms we got, it was cheaper too. But it was still fun to harvest "our own" mushrooms. cubensis spore syringe
